ACRES is a partner in the Allen County Trailblazers Program

“To encourage and promote exposure to the outdoors, provide opportunities for physical fitness and mental wellness, and to increase the awareness and support of all participating agencies.

How can you participate?

The Allen County Trailblazer program runs from July 1 to December 31.

You can hike 10 of 14 designated trails from partner organizations and receive a medallion for completing the challenge. You can also join guided hikes to help you meet your goal, make new friends and learn about the participating organizations.

Participating trails groups include: Allen County Parks, ACRES Land Trust, Little River Wetlands Project, New Haven Parks and Recreation, Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation and Fort Wayne Trails.

HIKE IT BABY FORT WAYNE

“Change your world one little hike at a time.”

Hike it Baby is a non-profit organization dedicated to building communities that support getting outside with children from birth to school age. Its purpose is to provide support to families as they get into nature whenever they feel ready. They are raising a generation to love the outdoors. They host a variety of events from trail hikes to urban strolls; toddler crawls to park and plays.

Hike it Baby relies on volunteers and welcomes everyone from mom, dad, partner, grandparents, nanny, foster parent, relatives, and friends to participate. They encourage anyone to host events and invite others to join. Hike it Baby is a friendly and all-inclusive community where all abilities and ages are welcome in a judgement-free zone to enjoy each other’s company, be healthy, and expose our children to the wonders of nature.


OUTDOOR ADVENTURERS OF NORTHEAST INDIANA (OANI)

This group is a place to find other people that love the outdoors as much as you do. OANI is a group open to the inexperienced outdoor enthusiast to the more experienced…willing to try new adventures together! They share many activities such as: Short hikes/walks for exercise, hiking, backpacking, canoe/kayaking, camping, survival training, cave exploring, mountain biking, weekend cabin and/or camp trips, obstacle courses, whitewater rafting, and winter outdoor activities. This is a group of outdoor enthusiasts who want to enjoy good company, great fun, and beautiful scenery, and a little exercise (as a bonus).


WILD WALKERS

Group explores Northeast Indiana
Presented by Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation, regularly held on ACRES preserves
2nd & 4th Fridays

Wild Walkers is an adult hiking group that meets the second and fourth Fridays of each month for a walk on the wild side. Each hike features a different natural area in the region (parks, wetlands, nature preserve, etc.) and carpooling is available when necessary.

Many of the group’s hikes are held in ACRES preserves. See their calendar for details. If you are looking for friendship and fun, exercise and beautiful scenery. Wild Walkers will provide.

The mission at Women Who Explore is to inspire every woman to get outdoors, to try something new, to push boundaries and to help you check off your bucket list. All in affordable ways. They are not experts, nor are they superior athletes, they are regular women who love to get outdoors.

They would love for you to join on a weekend getaway, a free local meet up or simply peruse the blog for ideas on how to get outdoors and explore.
