The Tippecanoe River curves along this preserve’s southern boundary. The property hosts a variety of habitats including hardwood forest, pine forest and wetlands. In the Tippecanoe River are several endangered species including two species of mussels and four species of fish.
This land was donated to ACRES by the children of Bob and Ruth Kern. In naming this preserve, they wanted to honor their mother, a devoted conservationist with an abiding love of nature and the outdoors.
Ruth Kern Woodland Reserve is closed October 15, 2022 through January 15, 2023 due to permitted hunting. (ACRES does not sell hunting leases or allow hunting in open preserves.) Beginning in February 2023, hunting will no longer be allowed and this preserve will be open year-round.
