Preserve Description

Once part of a homestead called Spring Brook Farm, this preserve features grassland and second-growth woods. The trail winds through a forest of oak, hickory and maple trees. The Little Salamonie River meanders through the preserve’s northern portion.

Louis “Sam” A. Bibler grew up here. In his book Back Home Again, Bibler told the story of his childhood at Spring Brook: “Our happiest days of childhood were spent along the (Little Salamonie) creek or roaming the woods and pasture of this farm, when all our world was young and new.” Where he once played, today’s visitors may see birds of both field and forest, and wildflowers such as twinleaf and false Solomon’s seal.
