Virtual tour of ACRES first Michigan property

ACRES newest trail system opened to the public Nov. 21. Enjoy a virtual tour of our first Michigan property.

ACRES Land Trust acquired Kauffman Nature Sanctuary for permanent protection in 2019. Located in rolling Hillsdale County, the 78-acre preserve features approximately 1.15 miles of trails that wind through meadow, restored wetlands and forest.

Sedges, willows and cattails provide habitat for nesting Green Heron and Sandhill Cranes. At the back of the property, a cold water stream, one of Michigan’s headwater streams of Lake Erie, winds through a forest with several large pawpaw patches and a rich floodplain. Thirteen species of freshwater mussels have been documented in the stream, including the slippershell mussel, threatened in Michigan.

Interested in seeing Kauffman Nature Sanctuary for yourself? ACRES trails are open dawn to dusk, daily.

Our trails remain free to the public thanks to member support. Help us protect and care for special places like Kauffman Nature Sanctuary by supporting ACRES. With a donation of $20 or more, you become a member!
