Observe World Wetlands Day at an ACRES preserve

Feb. 2 marks World Wetlands Day, a celebration of the important role wetlands play in the lives of people, plants and animals.

Wetlands provide critical wildlife habitat, purify rivers and lakes, and reduce flooding risk. They’re often called “nature’s kidneys” because of their important function in the health of our planet.

Together with our members, ACRES protects several wetlands throughout the region. If you would like to get a closer look at these environmental wonders, here are three ACRES properties to explore:

This urban preserve absorbs stormwater runoff and provides a sanctuary for plants and animals. The trails at this forested wetland are often muddy, so be sure to wear waterproof shoes.
